Adjudication
includes the investigation, determination and sanctioning of an allegation of misconduct
Appellate Body
means any person or persons authorized by the Dean of Students to consider an appeal of determination that a student has violated the Code of Student Conduct or from one of the sanctions imposed
Associate Dean of Students
is the individual who in most instances is designated by the college President and the Dean of Students to be the student conduct coordinator responsible for the administration of the Code of Student Conduct
Cheating
includes, but is not limited to: Use of any unauthorized assistance in taking quizzes, tests or examinations. Use of sources beyond those authorized by the instructor in writing papers, preparing reports, solving problems or carrying out other examinations or assignments. The acquisition, without permission, of tests or other academic material belonging to a member of the college faculty or staff.
College
means St. Olaf College
College Official
includes any person or vendor (e.g., Food Service) employed by the college, performing assigned administrative or professional responsibilities
College Premises
includes all land, buildings, facilities and other property in the possession of or owned, used or controlled by the college, including adjacent streets and sidewalks
Faculty Member
means any person hired by the college to conduct classroom activities
May
is used in the permissive sense
Member of the College Community
includes any person who is a student, faculty member, college official, or any other person employed by the college. A person’s status in a particular situation shall be determined by the Dean of Students or other designated student conduct coordinator administering the Code of Conduct
Organization
means any number of persons who have complied with the formal requirements for college recognition
Plagiarism
includes, but is not limited to, the use, by paraphrase or direct quotation, of the published or unpublished work of another person without full and clear acknowledgment. It also includes the unacknowledged use of materials prepared by another person or agency engaged in the selling of term papers or other academic materials.
Policy
is defined as the written regulations of the college as found in, but not limited to, the St. Olaf College Academic Catalog and the Official Handbook
Shall
is used in the imperative sense
Student
includes all persons taking courses at St. Olaf College, either full-time or part-time. Persons who are not officially enrolled for a particular term but have a “continuing relationship” with the college are considered “students”
Student Conduct Coordinator
means a college official authorized by the Dean of Students to administer the operations of the campus conduct system and impose sanctions upon students found to have violated the Student Code. Nothing shall prevent the Dean of Students from authorizing the same conduct coordinator to impose sanctions in all cases.
Weapon
means any object or substance designed or utilized to inflict a wound, cause injury or incapacitate, including, but not limited to: All firearms, pellet/BB guns, explosives (includes fireworks), bows and arrows, slingshots, martial arts devices, brass knuckles, knives, decorative swords and weaponry, and chemicals such as mace or tear gas used in an offensive rather than their intended defensive manner. A harmless instrument designed to look like a firearm, explosive or weapon, or one used in such a way as to cause reasonable apprehension of harm or used to assault another person, is expressly included within the meaning of weapon.
