Fall 2021: Decolonizing Global and Local Experiential Learning
Read Description *Note: The application deadline has already passed. Please stay tuned for other opportunities soon and also see CILA’s website for complementary learning opportunities. This four-session series investigates ethical approaches to global and local experiential learning through a decolonization lens. The first session will begin with an exploration of the “Why Treaties Matter” exhibit at Carleton College and attending the opening keynote address by Dr. Gwen Westerman. The second session will be a workshop with Iyekiyapiwiƞ Darlene St. Clair about the intersections of antiracist pedagogy and Dakota worldview and values. The third session will focus on research on decolonizing curriculum in global and local contexts. The fourth session will focus on synthesizing, reflecting, and preparing to adapt future courses and content in response to our discussions and learning. The workshop is organized and co-facilitated by Theresa Heath (Associate Director, IOS: heath1@stolaf.edu) and Alyssa Herzog Melby (Program Director, ACE: melby1@stolaf.edu).
