The CURI Student Travel Program aims to provide as many St. Olaf students as possible with the experience of presenting their research and artistry to an external audience. Students must present their work in a manner in accordance with their field (e.g. a poster or talk in biology, a performance in dance). CURI travel support is not awarded simply for attending a conference, workshop, training, etc.

Funding levels vary depending on the number of students attending a conference and upon each individual’s financial need. Student presenters may apply for a maximum of $1,000 of travel support for reimbursable expenses; no support is given to simply attend a conference. The maximum amount of funding for a conference is $2000, whether students are presenting individually or in groups. Each student planning to attend the conference must apply for travel support, and no support will be announced until all students have applied. Please note, even co-authors traveling to the same conference may receive different award amounts, if their official financial needs differ.

All students requesting travel funding complete the same application, regardless of whether you are a single author/presenter or co-authoring projects. Get informed about how to request funds, arranging travel, and other important considerations.

REIMBURSEMENT

You must have itemized receipts and submit your travel reimbursement request within two weeks of the end of your travel dates. Learn how to successfully complete and turn in your reimbursement request for past expenses.

ELIGIBILITY

TYPES OF PRESENTATIONS

– SIR/IS courses
– Summer research at St. Olaf College (CURI Program)
– Internships
– DUR courses
– Level III courses (especially research seminars)
– Research methods courses
– Summer research at another institution

STUDENT ELIGIBILITY

– Must be a St. Olaf student returning for the next academic year, or a graduating senior (all travel must be completed before graduation)
– Must have permission to present their results from their faculty supervisor.

WARNING

Unfortunately, we operate in a world with predatory conference organizers. Take care not to waste your time and good ideas on such an outlet by double checking the reputation of the conference before applying. CURI will not fund presentations at known predatory outlets.
