- Our world is changing – should our approach to teaching history change as well?Current guidelines for HWC link the teaching of history with the idea of the West. That is, they connect a particular set of methods for learning about the past with a particular conceptual framework that juxtaposes the West with something other than the West. This linkage prompted debate at the beginning of our current GE. The debate has only intensified in recent years. In this forum we want to understand the current state of campus conversation about these issues. What is our current practice in HWC courses? What approach to history is the best way to satisfy the underlying aims of GE?
