St. Olaf College is committed to creating an equitable and inclusive community. For Library & IT Services (LITS), this means providing excellent service in a fair and respectful manner where all individuals feel welcome and valued.
The LITS Community & Belonging Committee:
- Connects with the larger community to understand and support campus needs
- Supports our colleagues in LITS and the wider campus community
- Organizes speakers from across campus for the LITS Staff Meetings
The goals of the LITS Community & Belonging Committee include:
- Raising awareness of college events regarding community and belonging
- Highlighting the work on community and belonging being done in the department
- Providing additional opportunities to incorporate these topics into LITS work and practice
- Supporting additional professional development in these areas
In 2019 LITS created a multi-year diversity, equity and inclusion plan to demonstrate our commitment to these efforts.ย The plan activities spanned all areas of LITS. This plan was shared among the LITS staff, the Council on Equity and Inclusion, and the Academic Division Deans and Directors.ย In November of that year a team of six LITS staff were asked to serve on the inaugural LITS Community and Belonging Team. The team was created to work with the CIO to help manage the DEI projects and initiatives and lead DEI discussions at staff meetings.ย These projects are outlined below.
