St. Olaf music scholarships are merit-based scholarships that are awarded to students with exceptional musical talent. Students also may qualify for additional need-based aid, in which case the music scholarship becomes part of the student’s financial aid package.
The Christiansen, Cassler, and Recognition Scholarships range from $2,000 to $15,000 and are:
- Open to students of any major
- Renewable for four years
- Require the following:
- continued enrollment in performance studies (private lessons)*
- ensemble participation in an approved St. Olaf College music ensemble on the award instrument (or, for keyboard scholarship recipients, on a secondary instrument/voice)
- recommendation of the music faculty
*Performance studies (private lessons) incur an additional cost of $600 per semester for one .25 credit (half hour) lesson per week. If accepted into the music major, this fee is waived for lessons on the student’s primary instrument. For non-music majors, the awarded scholarship is meant to help offset the cost of these performance studies.
The Emerging Musician Scholarships are $7,000 and are:
- Open to students of any major
- Renewable for four years
- Require the following:
- on-campus involvement
- an annual recording, sample, or performance
- participation in cohort meetings
