Music major applicants should submit the required repertoire shown below for the desired degree program. All music major applicants will be automatically considered for scholarships.
Non-music major applicants should submit the same repertoire as required for the BA music majors.
We would like to encourage you to consider a work by composers from historically underrepresented groups.
B.A. music major, music education, non-music major
- Two contrasting solo selections of the applicant’s choice demonstrating both lyricism and technical dexterity. These can be either complete works or single movements from larger works.
- Suggestions of repertoire include but are not limited to:
- Mozart, Concerto
- Osborne, Rhapsody
- Tailleferre, Sonata
- Weber Concerti or Concertino
- Scales:
- Chromatic, low E to high G (or higher), slurred
- Two three-octave major scales (your choice, chosen from the following: E, F, F#, G, Ab, A): played both slurred and articulated
- One harmonic minor scale of your choice (two octaves sufficient, slurred)
- One melodic minor scale of your choice (two octaves sufficient, slurred
B.M. performance major
- Two contrasting selections demonstrating lyricism, technical dexterity, and an understanding of at least two different musical styles. These can be either complete works or single movements from larger works.
- Suggestions of repertoire include but are not limited to:
- Messager, Solo de Concours
- Mozart, Concerto
- Osborne, Rhapsody
- Saint-Saens, Sonata
- Stravinsky, Three Pieces
- Tailleferre, Sonata
- Weber Concerti or Concertino
- Two contrasting orchestral excerpts of the applicant’s choice

- Beethoven, Symphony No. 6, movement 2: measures 68 (1 measure before letter D) to measure 77 (2 measures before letter E)
- Brahms, Symphony No. 3, movement 2: Beginning to measure 23 ( 1 measure before letter B)
- Mendelssohn, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, scherzo; beginning to measure 48 (1 measure before letter B)
