Students are encouraged to express an interest in the nursing major upon application for admission to St. Olaf College. Enrollment in the program is limited and admission is competitive. Early consultation with the Nursing Department Chair, Dr. Susan Huehn, is recommended.
Preparing for Admission to the Nursing Program
Students intending to major in nursing should be assigned a nursing faculty member as an academic advisor. Nursing faculty can assist you to select courses prerequisite to the nursing major and best outline and plan for your success in the nursing program. Direct Admission
Students intending to major in nursing at the time of application to St. Olaf College may be considered for direct admission to the nursing program as a first-year student. Students seeking direct admission to the nursing program must complete an additional application to the program at the same time they submit an application to St. Olaf. Sophomore Admission
Application for admission to the nursing program occurs during the fall semester of the sophomore year. Applicant will, by appointment, complete an interview with nursing faculty. Conditional Acceptance to the Nursing Program
Conditional acceptance to the nursing program for all applicants (direct and sophomore admission) will be considered based on certain criteria. Conditional acceptance to the nursing program for all applicants (direct and sophomore admission) will become final only if students meet certain criteria prior to the fall semester of their junior year.
The Nursing Department announces conditional acceptance to the nursing program every January. Conditional acceptance to the nursing program is necessary in order to matriculate in the spring semester, 200-level nursing courses required for the major.
The nursing major begins in the spring semester of the sophomore year.
Progression in the Nursing Program

Dismissal from the Nursing Program
