Learning in the clinical setting is an integral part of achieving course objectives in the nursing major. Clinical experiences provide the student with a vivid and firsthand opportunity to observe and work with a professional role model in the application of nursing theory and processes in the practice of nursing.

Clinical Preceptors
The St. Olaf Nursing Program collaborates with clinical preceptors. The preceptor is viewed as a nurse with expertise gained from experience and study over time and serves as a clinical mentor to the student.
The preceptor is an employee of the clinical agency and their service is voluntary. Selection is based on the recommendation of the agency and the relationship between the preceptor and the nursing program is collaborative in support of student learning.
Clinical Transportation
Nursing students will need to provide their own transportation to clinical experiences. It is also the student’s responsibility to provide insurance and maintenance of the vehicle and bear the liability for any passengers.
