The Education major prepares students for teaching licensure; to ensure depth, breadth, and mastery in their licensure areas, students majoring in Education must also major in their content licensure area (i.e., English, Math, Biology, Chemistry, or Physics).

Students seeking licensure should take EDUC 295: Foundations of Education during fall of sophomore year. This course, which is a prerequisite for most other courses in the Education Department, is not offered in the spring.
EDUC 170 (January Term) and concentration elective courses outside of the education department can be taken in the first year. All other Education coursework begins in the sophomore year.
Meet with an Education faculty member as soon as possible to develop a course plan – this can be done in the first year
Focus on general education requirements (and a prospective teaching major, if pursuing the Education major/teaching licensure) during the first year
For students pursuing the major/teaching licensure, have a minimum overall and content area GPA of 2.7 to apply to the Teacher Education Program in the sophomore year.
