The Student Affairs Committee advocates student life and well-being concerns to relevant campus offices. We provide updates on student life to the College’s Board of Regents and liaise with the President’s Leadership Team, Residence Life, Bon Appétit, Public Safety, and other campus offices to communicate student concerns. Additionally, we sponsor initiatives related to student life and well-being.
What does the Student Affairs Committee do?
The Board of Regents is a volunteer body whose mission is to “oversee the college’s academic quality and fiscal integrity and ensure the college’s ability to accomplish its purposes both now and in the future.” For more on the specific responsibilities, committees, and composition of the Board of Regents, click here.
The Secretary of Student Affairs acts as the Board of Regents Student Observer and is responsible for attending and reporting to the student body about the Board of Regents meetings. The Board of Regents meets three times each academic year. Click here for access to reports.
The President’s Leadership Team is responsible for the college’s daily operations, such as its academic and co-curricular programs, policies, department expenditures, hiring decisions, communications, and community connections. Members of the Student Affairs committee are responsible for interfacing with the President’s Leadership Team and communicating student concerns with relevant offices.
The Student Affairs Committee communicates with Bon Appetit and other college bodies about improvements to the college dining experience. Members of our committee are a part of the Dining Advisory Committee, which discusses innovations in dinning at St. Olaf. For more information on the Dining Advisory Committee makes changes to dining options, read the article from the Olaf Messenger.
The Department of Public Safety has an advisory committee to address topics in the relationship between public safety and the campus community. The Committee consists of representatives for each class year, faculty, and college staff. Click here to learn more.
