Health Insurance Policy
St. Olaf requires that all students enrolled at the College have adequate health insurance coverage. This requirement is in place for the protection of our students.
Domestic Students
As of the 2024-2025 academic year, St. Olaf will no longer be offering a school sponsored domestic insurance plan. This decision was made while considering the needs of students, families, and staff. Students must have insurance that covers emergency care in Minnesota but are not required to have coverage based in Minnesota, and families with outside insurance will no longer need to submit a waiver providing proof of coverage.
International Students
St. Olaf will continue to require our international students to participate in the international student plan through LewerMark.
Supplemental Accident Insurance
Starting in the fall of the 2024-2025 academic year, St. Olaf will be providing a basic accident benefit that provides up to $5,000 for expenses relating to an accident occurring on or off campus. Students do not need to sign up for this benefit which will be available to all full-time students at no cost. This supplemental accident plan does not replace your current major medical coverage.
This coverage is in effect only for the academic year. Coverage begins the first day students are required to be on campus and ends the last day students are required to be on campus. Coverage remains in effect over breaks, so long as the student is enrolled in the next academic term.
To take advantage of these benefits, students must complete a EIIA claim form, and submit the itemized insurance bills and explanation of benefits if you have primary insurance plan.
Visit the Educational & Institutional Insurance Administrators (EIIA) web site to:

Understanding Healthcare
Learning how to navigate health care in the U.S. is not only a daunting task for many St. Olaf students, health literacy is a national concern for many people of all ages.
In response, the Understanding Health Care page was made by St. Olaf students in order to provide students with the tools and support to help them tools to navigate health care with more confidence. By guiding our research based on student data along with staff and student interviews, this webpage covers a wide array of health care issues that students identify struggling with.
Campus Health Services
St. Olaf Health Services is located in New Hall on the east side entrance. Visit the Health Services website for detailed information on what services are offered.
As of the 2024-2025 academic year, St. Olaf will no longer be offering a school-sponsored health insurance plan for domestic students. This decision was made while considering the needs of students, families, and staff.
While this means families with outside insurance no longer need to submit a waiver providing proof of coverage, St. Olaf still requires that all students enrolled at the college have adequate health insurance coverage. In other words, students must have insurance that covers emergency care in Minnesota but are not required to have coverage based in Minnesota.
Coverage will continue for all students currently on the UnitedHealthcare (UHC) plan through St. Olaf will until August 14, 2024, after which time they should be covered under an alternate plan.
We understand that this transition may be challenging for some, so we have provided some information below on health insurance alternatives. We are also happy to provide a letter of termination to enroll in a new health insurance plan if needed.

Options for alternative health insurance coverage include:

- Enrolling in Minnesota’s public insurance program (MNsure)
