The Move to Blocks
Since St. Olaf’s move to WordPress in 2013, the WordPress platform has made some leaps in bold new directions, including the adoption of the Block Editor (or Gutenberg).
St. Olaf’s theme currently employs a precursor to blocks called Panels, but with Blocks being the new standard, we are following suit and implementing them across the St. Olaf site, replacing Panels entirely.
This change will be largely automated and, ideally, unnoticed by Administrators and users alike. But Administrators will need to know:
- how Blocks differ from Panels
- how Blocks are similar to Panels
- the basics of working in Blocks
- how to troubleshoot issues with Blocks
