Voting early by mail can help reduce lines on Election Day! While you can request a mail-in ballot up until November 5th in Minnesota, we suggest that you request your ballot at least two weeks before election day (October 22) to ensure it will be received in time. Each state has a different absentee ballot deadline and application process. If you plan to vote by mail in a different state, check out your Secretary of State’s website! Here is some helpful information on how to request your mail-in ballot from campus.
Voting by Mail from Campus
First, go to the Minnesota Secretary of State’s absentee ballot request form.
Step One – Location
- County: Rice
- City, State, Zip: Northfield, MN, 55057
Step Two – Personal Information
- Enter Your Full Name and Date of Birth
- Enter your Minnesota ID Number (Driver’s License or I.D. Card) OR the last four digits of your Social Security Number
- Enter your address:
- If you live in a dorm:
- House Number – Enter “0” (Zero)
- Street – Select your dorm’s name from the dropdown menu (ex. “Rand Hall CLG”)
- If you live in affiliate housing:
- See this spreadsheet for what you should put as your address
- If you live off-campus:
- Enter your home address
- If you live in a dorm:
- Select where you want your ballot to be sent
- Enter your email address
- Verify the information and sign
Congrats, you’ve requested your mail-in ballot! Remember to turn in your ballot at least a week before the election to ensure that it is counted on Election Day (Nov. 8th).
