Every year, we seek to enroll 775 smart and motivated students to join our community. Within that number we also seek diversity in a variety of forms. From English to physics, athletics to fine arts, from San Diego to Boston (or, for that matter, from London to Hong Kong), we want to create an interesting community. Ultimately, want our entering class to be filled with people who can take advantage of all that St. Olaf has to offer, who can thrive here, and graduate ready to be successful in the years beyond college.
Application Options and Deadlines
You may choose to apply under Early Decision (Nov. 15 or Jan. 1 deadlines) or Regular Admission (Jan. 15 deadline). Early Decision is a good option for students who know that St. Olaf is their top choice. Students admitted under our Early Decision process agree to withdraw all their applications from other institutions.
Deadlines for admission and financial aid are important; to receive full consideration for admission, scholarships, and other financial aid, be sure to meet them.
We’re Here To Help
Applying for admission and financial aid can feel complicated, or even stressful. We’re here to help. We encourage you to contact your admissions officer with questions about your application, as well as about the college.
Our admission process is not only highly personal, but also highly selective. Every year we receive applications from many more students than we could admit. We conduct a comprehensive review of every application, including assessments of a student’s coursework, grades, extra-curricular leadership, as well as reviewing letters of recommendation and student essays. More details can be found on our what we look for in an applicant page, along with details about our application requirements.
St. Olaf enrolls students from over 75 countries. We provide them with consistent support, and they enliven discussion and our community in important ways. More detailed information for international applicants can be found here.
We have limited room for mid-year transfer students (to begin second semester, February 2014). Students interested in transferring mid-year should complete applications by early December to receive full consideration, though we will consider applications on a space-available basis through January.
