Peruvian Medical Experience – Bio 284
This course is a service/learning experience. Week one is spent on-campus examining emerging and existing health care issues. Students spend one week in Cusco, Peru, assessing patient dental and medical needs in an orphanage, a homeless shelter, and the second week serving the Willoq Community in the mountains. Week three in Peru takes place in Arequipa serving in a retreat center in an underserved area where displaced people settle. Prerequisites: Biology 125 or Chemistry/Biology 125-127. Apply through the instructor. Offered during Interim. All accepted students must take a 0.25 unit course on Peru during the fall semester.
