Signs of the Holy: Lost and Found

CWTA 2014 LogoThe 2004 St. Olaf College Conference on Worship, Theology and the Arts presented nationally recognized musicians, artists, scholars and theologians who will bring their own perceptions and expertise to contemplating God’s presence in the rhythms of our lives.
Conference lectures, workshops and discussions gave tools to deepen the life of the congregation, whether you are a pastor, musician, artist, lay leader or educator.

We lament that signs of God’s presence are often lost in daily life, buried or misplaced under a pile of other thoughts, lists, commitments, conflicts or hardships. So this week was an affirmation that the Holy is near. We start where God starts — with Baptism, when God promises to be near. From there we move into the grist of our lives — relationships, vocation, the need for healing, the constant need for the Holy Spirit to guide our souls and the soul of our world.

During the conference, worship services model worship planning that integrates text, liturgy and the arts. In 2004, the worship services lifted up:

  • Affirmation of baptism
  • Affirmation of community
  • Affirmation of vocation
  • Service of healing
  • Pentecost

The services provided an opportunity for conference participants to gather as a community for spiritual renewal.
