Project Description
American Conversations is an interdisciplinary learning community providing a far-ranging exploration of America over a two-year sequence of courses. Students get to know one another both in their conversation-based classes and by living in a common dorm in their first year. In AmCon, conversations might start in the classroom and continue over dinner or during a trip to a museum cultural event.
The AmCon web portal is designed to provide readings, images, websites, and other media to enhance the learning and teaching of American history from 1607 to the present. The portal features exhibits on major themes and historical figures in each era, a collection of images helpful to teaching the time period, and suggested projects and questions to go along with the material. Prof. Matt Rohn and student researcher Jay Carlson created the Amcon digital portal in the summer of 2014.
The creation of the Amcon web portal provided the foundation for subsequent development of a successor DHH project, the Amcon Digital Library.
