*Assumes that the individual has no prior experience in Latin or Greek; higher coursework can be taken if prerequisites are met.
CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS COURSEWORK
- Score of 3 on AP Latin Exam earns placement into Latin 231.
- Score of 4 or 5 on AP Latin Exam, or 5 on IB HL Latin Exam, earns placement into Latin 231 or any higher-numbered Latin course; AP or IB credit is given for Latin 112 upon successful completion (C or above) of Latin 231, or for Latin 231 upon successful completion (C or above) of any higher-numbered Latin course.
- Score of 5 on IB HL Classical Greek Exam earns placement into Greek 231 or any higher-numbered Greek course; IB credit is given for Greek 112 upon successful completion (C or above) of Greek 231, or for Greek 231 upon successful completion (C or above) of any higher-numbered Greek course.
- AP or IB credit for Latin or Greek 112 or for Latin or Greek 231 can be counted toward the requirements of the Classics major.
Placement
- Any incoming student who has studied Latin in the past should take the Latin placement survey; any incoming student who has studied Ancient Greek in the past should take the Ancient Greek placement survey. Students who would like to begin studying Latin should sign up for Latin 111 in the fall; students who would like to begin studying Ancient Greek should sign up for Greek 111 in the fall.
