Movement-intensive (technique) and language-intensive (theory) classes present dance as a vital form of embodied awareness, personal expression, and physical communication.
Typical First-Year Schedule
Fall
- FYS 120 or WRIT 120 or Conversation Program
- DANCE 100: Introduction to Dance
- OLE Core/Elective
- World Language
- Movement-Intensive Course(s)* (0.25-0.50 credit) – can take one or two of these courses depending on space in your schedule
january term
- DANCE 124 (offered every other year during January Term) Take the first opportunity you can.
Spring
- FYS 120 or WRIT 120 or Conversation Program
- Dance 150: Movement/Camera/Process (offered every other year in the Spring). Take the first opportunity you are able to. If Dance 150 isn’t offered, then take OLE Core/Elective
- OLE Core/Elective
- World Language
- Movement-Intensive Course(s)* (0.25-0.50 credit) – can take one or two of these courses depending on space in your schedule
Additional Information
*Includes DANCE 106/107/108/109/111/112/113/121/130/ 131/141/160 and DANCE 206/207/209/210/ 211/220/ 221/240/ 241/250/251/260/ 261. Level 200 and Level 300 movement intensive courses are offered for both .25 credit and .50 credit. The courses meet at the same time but the .50 credit version has more outside of class work.
**Note: Participation in one of the two dance companies (Companydance or Vesilica) is also highly reccommended. Dance scholarship students are required to participate in one of the two companies. Enrollment in a movement intensive course is required as part of participation in the dance companies.
CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS COURSEWORK
- Credit for transfer courses is done in consultation with the Registrar and the Dance Department Chair.
Placement
- The first day of class in movement intensive courses is used to determine placement. If students have questions about what level movement courses they should register for they can talk to Dance faculty at the Dance Department Information sessions.
- Usually level 1 movement intensive courses are for those students that haven’t had that specific form of dance before. Level 2 classes are for those students who have had several years of experience in that specific dance form.

Companydance Audition Information Session – Friday, September 8 at 3:45-4:45 pm in Center for Art and Dance Studio One
Veselica Auditions – Thursday, September 14 at 3: 45 pm in Center for Art and Dance Studio Three (If students are also auditioning for Companydance, they can leave at 4:15 pm.)
Companydance Auditions for First-Years and Sophomores – Thursday, September 14 at 4:15 pm in Center for Art and Dance Studio One
