Taylor Center Residential Learning Communities

2025-2026 Taylor Center Residential Learning Communities: ERITAJ, Lavender and Marlys Boone.

The Taylor Center Residential Learning Comunities’ purpose is to create intentional environments where students engage in dialogues and plan events around issues that support and celebrate different cultures and identities.

All RLC’s are supported by an Academic Advisor (programming advisor) and a Taylor Center Advisor (administrative advisor).

The purpose of the ERITAJ RLC is to enhance community efforts to welcome students of diverse heritage and backgrounds, address the hardships and differences as well as celebrate the College’s multi-heritage community.

ERITAJ is a beautiful word in Haitian Creole meaning Heritage.

Lavender RLC serves as an intersectional safe space for social programming to build community among students, centered around celebrating the LGBTQ+ community. The RLC provides social and educational opportunities for the campus to engage in conversation on topics and issues related to the LGBTQ+ community.

Lavender RLC is driven by a heartfelt mission: to celebrate LGBTQ+ and allied individuals, cultivating a community which promotes equality and intersectionality through social and educational programs.

The Marlys Boone RLC is a service coalition open to students of all identities that advocates for Black-identifying people on and off-campus by fostering community, advocating for action, creating safe spaces, and engaging in community work with and for Black-identifying people on campus.

Academic Advisor: Dana Horton, Associate Professor of English and Race, Ethnic, Gender, and Sexuality Studies.

TC is able to support the formation of Two Pods from amongst the following proposed communities: Latinx Pod, South Asian Pod, Southwest Asian and North African Pod, African Pod, East African Pod, Pacific Islander Pod, East Asian Pod, South East Asian Pod or Other Pod located in Ytterboe Hall.

Participation:

Attend orientation meetings in April/May 2025 and the opening House meeting on September 2025.
Prepare the House program proposal for October, November, February, and April projects and submit to the House Advisor.
Attend the weekly or bi-weekly required House gathering.
Attend the twice per semester TC House Community In-services (Fall : Oct and Nov 2025 | Spring : February and March/April 2026)
Perform the activities of the resident role assigned. See Residents Roles
Participate in recruitment and informational opportunities when appropriate. (Parents Weekend, Student Organizations Fair, etc.)

Teamwork:

Have and attend RLC meetings.
Each House resident must show equal commitment for accomplishing each project goals and help others in the planning and execution of the RLC mission and events.
Each resident is responsible for the shared community spaces in the RLC including the cleanliness of the kitchen.

Communication:

Provide information to the House advisor concerning number of participants, monthly programs, program finances and project concerns.

Responsibility and Accountability:

Comply with St. Olaf financial and Residential life procedures.
Learn and follow the TC credit card use procedure.
Complete event reports and program assessment.
Implement the House Programming.
Abide by St. Olaf Policies as stated in the Student Handbook section of The Book.
Participate in the House evaluation process.
Be a responsible neighbor.
Leave the House in a condition equal or better than it was when you arrived.
