Project proposals are due 2 weeks after the fall dance majors’ meeting
Each dance major will propose a project inspired by their Area of Specialty that they will create and present during their junior year. This project could be choreography created by the student, a solo performance, a paper, or an interdisciplinary project. The goal of this project is to provide an opportunity for junior dance majors to engage in a creative project process that:
- is not a class assignment
- aligns with the student’s interests
- is a low stakes ‘tryout’ of the senior capstone project process*
*The projects do not need to relate directly to the capstone process (i.e. if the student wants to do a solo senior year, they can still choreograph a group dance for their junior project)
The best presentation option is during an already scheduled department event (Fresh Space in November, one of the Friday Night Lights performances, the FYDP concert, etc.).
Junior dance majors may also select another date, time and space for the presentation of their projects. If this is the case they:
- are responsible for reserving the venue and advertising the project
- are encouraged to partner with other juniors to present multiple projects during the same event
- must not compete with existing Dance Department performance events, so they must consult with the dance calendar before scheduling their project
Tip: Projects completed early in the year are the most successful and least stressful
