Joe Roith – Visiting Assistant Professor of Statistics, Mathematics and Computer Science
Over the past few semesters I have been creating interactive online tutorials for teaching the statistical software R. Historically, there is a steep learning curve for our Stat 212 students as they are first introduced to R. The software environment and interface can be intimidating, especially for students who have no prior coding experience. These tutorials aim to teach basic coding skills and syntax in a more friendly setting. Allowing for a combination of content, coding, and skill checks. After the initial success of these tutorials, we now have a dedicated server on campus to host these and similar applications. So far there has been tremendous feedback from students about the simplicity of learning R through these tutorials.
