Interlibrary Loan Is Now Resource Sharing
What is Resource Sharing?
When a book, article or other resource is not owned by St. Olaf or Carleton Libraries, you may request it through Resource Sharing (which used to be called Interlibrary Loan). Your request will be sent to other libraries to be fulfilled. In many (but not all) cases, we can get articles or book chapters within a few hours, and books or other physical items within several days.
In September of 2021, we consolidated our services so that both local and Resource Sharing requests would be submitted and managed within Catalyst. ILLiad is no longer used for Resource Sharing requests. We have made further enhancements to the display of the Resource Sharing request link, to make requesting easier and more intuitive for you.
How to make a Resource Sharing request
Like requests for locally-held items, all Resource Sharing requests are made from a Catalyst Request form. This form is easily accessible from a variety of sources.
From the Library Home Page:
Search for the item you are looking for in Catalyst. If you don’t locate it in Catalyst, use the “expand your search” link above the search results to look in other libraries’ collections.
Note: If you are not already logged in to Catalyst, you will be prompted to login to view all request options. If you find the record of the item you would like to request, you will be presented with options to borrow a copy (for a book or other loanable physical item), or to receive a scanned copy of an article or book chapter.
If you expand your search and still can’t find the item, use the “Still didn’t find what you need? Click here to send a request” link above the search results. This will take you to a blank Catalyst Resource Sharing form that you can use to fill in your citation and submit the request.
From a Database or WorldCat
All links to items not available at St. Olaf or Carleton lead to our Catalyst request form. Usually, you will see these request links displayed as a “Find It!” or a “Request Item through Resource Sharing” button.
How to view your existing requests — My Library Card
You can view items you have requested and checked out from St. Olaf/Carleton libraries and Resource Sharing in your Catalyst library account. To see these items, as well as any pending requests for articles or book chapters, click on the “View & Renew Loans” button on the library main page:
