New Hall accommodates 300 student beds with 30 single rooms (three accessible rooms) & 135 double rooms. Additional lounge and study spaces. Approximately 36.1 square feet (sf) of lounge space per bed, compared to 15.9 sf in Hill/Kit, 33.8 sf in Ellingson, and 24.2 sf in Ytterboe.
Separate rooms for toilet, shower, and sinks. Please note:
- The person in the bathroom is able to lock the doors that enter into the bathroom. The rooms on either side of the bathroom are not able to lock the door that enters the bathroom.
- What is different: The suitemates in Rand Hall can not easily enter each other’s rooms through the bathroom. New Hall suitemates can enter each other’s rooms. With all of our residence halls we require Assigned Living Space Agreements. Specifically for these two buildings, if you live in this type of room style, you should discuss expectations around entering each other’s suites.
- Each room style also follows Residence Life’s vacancy protocol, whereby vacant bed spaces can be filled. If you expect a vacancy to come available in your room/suite you should communicate with Residence Life if you have identified someone to fill the vacancies. All notifications of a preferred roommate must be provided before the actual space is vacant.
These bathroom configurations are very different from the floor restrooms/showers currently provided in existing facilities.
Here is the current design for the room configurations in the new residence hall. The proposed sleeping space is very similar in size to what students experience now. It provides approximately 116 sf per bed and a bathroom for every four beds. This compares to 101 sf per bed in Ellingson, 79 sf per bed in Kittelsby for a triple room or 119 sf per bed in a double configuration, and 112 sf per bed in Ytterboe.
