Transfer applicants are encouraged to visit the Hill for a tour, class visit, and meeting with the transfer counselor. Please schedule your visit at least a week in advance so we can arrange a class visit.
Are you a Transfer Student?
A transfer student is defined by someone who has attempted or earned college credit after graduation from high school or a student who has obtained their GED. To apply to transfer to St. Olaf, you will start with the Common Application for Transfer (including the St. Olaf specific questions). For international transfer applications you can find the additional requirements in the section below.

lETTER OF Recommendation
One letter of recommendation from a teacher in a core academic subject: English, international language, history, social studies, mathematics, or the natural sciences.
This letter may be submitted via the Common Application or emailed as an attachment directly from the recommender to admissions@stolaf.edu.

Official Test Scores
Standardized test scores are not required. Should you choose to submit test scores, we will accept self-reported test scores for the application process. If you choose to enroll at St. Olaf, you will need to provide official test score reports from College Board, ACT, or on your official high school transcript. You may self-report your test scores via emailed score reports or screenshots from you or your counselor; on your Common Application/Coalition Application; or by filling out this quick form.
Reminder: we super score the SAT and the ACT. We will super score your ACT or SAT results by combining your highest subsection score from different test dates to create your composite score.

International Transfer Application
Official Test Scores
TOEFL (minimum score 90), Academic IELTS (minimum band 6.5), or Duolingo (minimum score of 120). This requirement will be waived automatically if English is your first language and/or your primary language of instruction. Optional: See note above about SAT and ACT scores for all applications.

applying for need-based Financial Aid
CSS/Financial Aid PROFILE is required if you are applying for need-based financial aid. While we encourage you to submit the CSS PROFILE if possible, you are welcome to use the Intl ACAC Financial Aid form or the ISFAA instead of the CSS PROFILE if finances are a concern. Only students with U.S. citizenship must file the FAFSA form as well.
International Student Certification of Finances (if applicable) If you are applying for need-based financial aid this is not required until after you are admitted and decide to enroll. If you are an international transfer applicant, submit all of the requirements above as well as your current university transcript and the Transfer College Report. No. Early Decision and Early Action Deadlines only apply to first-year students. Transfer students only have two deadlines that are applicable: November 1 (mid-year transfer), and April 1 (fall semester transfer).
Yes. All music applications — including transfers — must be submitted by the same deadline as your admissions application to the college. The Admissions Office makes the admission decision for all applicants to the college, including those applying to the Bachelor of Music degree program, so you should follow the application procedures for all transfer applicants. Before you start the application process, you are strongly encouraged to discuss your plans with the music admissions coordinator, Molly Boes-Ganza. Transfer students must first apply to the college and be admitted to St. Olaf prior to starting their nursing application. The Admissions Office makes the admission decision for all applicants to the college and the nursing program has a separate application for students interested in this major. The nursing program conducts its internal admission process for the nursing major in the fall.

Yes. Transfer students who are interested in joining an a team on campus should contact the coach via email to learn about opportunities and openings that are available. Please visit our St. Olaf Athletics page for their contact information or contact your admissions representative.
Yes. The Science Conversation program is a great fit for transfer students (particularly, sophomores). Conversation programs are interdisciplinary, team-taught explorations. We want students to develop the ability to listen carefully, argue forcefully, and be the kind of engaged thinker who makes a conversation more interesting.
Yes. St. Olaf offers competitive merit scholarships for transfer students that recognize achievement and potential for academic success. Transfer scholarships range between $25,000 and $35,000 per year and are awarded to student based on our review of information in the transfer application. Transfer students may also apply for Art, Dance, Music, and Theater scholarships. The Art, Dance, Music, or Theater Scholarship application is due at the same time as your admissions application to the college.
