When may I leave my room…

To St. Olaf College studentsFrom Associate Dean of Students for Residence Life Pamela McDowell

The most frequently asked question we’re getting from students right now is “When may I leave my room?”

As a reminder, within 24 hours of getting to campus/Northfield you need to get your COVID-19 test. Until the first round of test results are in, the campus will remain on a strict quarantine.

At this time, you may:

  • Be in your room
  • Use the bathroom on your floor
  • Go to Stav Hall during your assigned meal time
  • Stop at the St. Olaf Post Office on your walk back from your assigned meal time to pick up any packages you have received

The first round of tests came back for the first year class and your living area. You now may also:

  • Move about the floor you live on
  • Hang out in a lounge with corridor/floor members (obeying set capacity levels & wearing face covering)
  • Be in the outdoor space near your residence (still staying close to the hall). It is important to maintain physical distance from others and wear a face covering
  • Solo walk/run the Natural Lands or on campus grounds

You may not leave campus at this time.

We will do this until September 2 (after everyone has had two COVID-19 tests).

We can lessen restrictions only if we all adhere to the expectations.   We must follow social distancing and mask protocols.   We are all enjoying being back on campus – but if we don’t do this safely we put that in jeopardy.

Thank you,
