Important Updates to Community Standards
To St. Olaf College faculty and staff
From Campus Reopening Lead Enoch Blazis
Dear St. Olaf Community,
With just a few weeks left in the spring semester, things are looking good on campus. Our case numbers remain low, our vaccination numbers are strong, and we are ending the year in a Green Campus Alert Level.
New Guidance from Governor Walz
Based on the new guidance from Governor Walz last week on rolling back COVID-19 restrictions, we are making several important changes to our Community Standards.
- Masking is not required outside unless you are in a group of 500 or more (this is a change to our Community Standards). Masking is required inside.
- Please note that we have several upcoming events that will be large and will require masks, including some Senior Days events (the Illumination Ceremony) and Commencement. We will make it clear when masks are required at outdoor events, but please have a mask with you at all times.
- Social distancing is not required outside (a change to our Community Standards). Social distancing is required inside.
We know that many in our campus community may feel more comfortable continuing to mask, regardless of the setting. We encourage everyone in our community to support and respect each others’ decision regarding masking during this time of transition on campus and in Minnesota. Masks have been an invaluable tool in helping to prevent the spread of COVID-19 on campus and will be the final risk mitigation measure lifted by the state on July 1 for indoor spaces.
As of today, 73% of St. Olaf faculty and staff and 70% of students have reported that they are fully vaccinated or in the process of being vaccinated.
Enjoy the spring weather and keep up the great work!
