Happy New Year — Keeping You, Our Staff Colleagues, Safe from COVID During Interim

To St. Olaf College staff
From Vice President of Human Resources Leslie Moore ’77 P’19

Dear staff colleagues

First, and most important, a very Happy New Year to you.

For those of you who worked over the holiday break — our Facilities team, our colleagues in Student Life, and the many people who worked on COVID — thank you for doing so. I hope that you were able to find some downtime to enjoy the break. I appreciate all that you’ve done to help us get ready for what will almost certainly be a memorable January.

For those of you who were able to take off the full break, I hope that you were able to rest and recharge your batteries.

On the COVID front:

As you know, Omicron and Delta are flourishing in Minnesota. Our faculty, staff and students are testing positive at a much higher rate than during the fall semester — among them employees (a) who are vaccinated and boosted and (b) who had COVID as recently as 14-15 weeks ago. Under these circumstances, our goal is to do whatever we can to keep you, our employees, as safe as possible.

Baseline testing

If you plan to be on campus at any point during Interim (including dropping by your office to pick up something you’ve forgotten, checking your mail, etc.), you need to participate in our baseline testing, which will be held on Tuesday, January 4 through Thursday, January 6. Sign up for your testing slot now.

Please wear your masks indoors at all times except when you are alone in your own office. Cover both your nose and your mouth with a tightly fitting mask, preferably an N-95 or a KF-94. When you are outdoors and within 6 feet of another person, please wear your mask as well.

During the month of January, please meet with people online rather than in person — if it is possible to do so. Help us reduce the amount of time that people are spending with each other in person.

Booster shots

If you haven’t received your COVID booster shot, please do so as soon as possible. Receiving your booster by February 1, 2022 is a condition of your continuing employment with the college. Most of you currently qualify for a booster shot (six months past your second Pfizer or Moderna shot or two months past your single Johnson & Johnson dose.) Please report your booster shot using our COVID-19 reporting form.

Finally, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to — or to me personally at

Again, thanks for all that you’re doing to keep our community as healthy and safe as possible.

Kind regards
