3D Fabrication

Welcome to the wonderful world of 3D printing.  At the DiSCO there are resources available to help anyone explore 3D creation.  Below are tools to guide any user through this journey.

The 3D printing system available in the DiSCO is the Ultimaker 2 GO.  Paired with Ultimaker Cura, the software used to prepare files for the printer,  users can undertake a wide range of projects.  Additionally the equipment is free to use!  There are two printers available, one in the Maker Space, and one in the 3D workroom.  The 3D workroom may be booked for use through the library appointments site.

Cura may also be downloaded off the Ultimaker Website.

Below is a guide on how to use the Cura Software with the printer.

Design Software

  • Blender
  • SketchUp
  • Sculptris

Blender is available on all DiSCO computers.  If it is not found, it may be installed from the Managed Software Center.  SketchUp and Sculptris can be downloaded for free.

Pre-Made Designs

Pre-made designs can be found on Thingiverse.  It is a great resource to find a plethora of designs that are ready to print.  From models of animals to phone cases,  Thingiverse is a place where just about anything can be found.
