The Kierkegaard Library, A Research Center

Programming and Research Opportunities
For nearly half a century, the Hong Kierkegaard Library at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota has served as a Research Center in Kierkegaard studies, welcoming scholars from around the world to gather in a vibrant research community. As a functioning research hub for the global Kierkegaard community, the Kierkegaard Library offers programming, such as lectures, seminars, workshops, Danish instruction, and other academic events, as well as research stays, both during the academic year and summer months.
Kierkegaard Summer Institute (KSI)
The Kierkegaard Summer Institute is at the core of the Kierkegaard Library’s mission. During June and July an international community gathers at the Kierkegaard Library to exchange ideas, participate in seminars, and conduct independent research. Visitors range from undergraduates and early graduate students to seasoned Kierkegaard scholars. A multiplicity of disciplines, approaches, and perspectives come into dialogue here, and everyone comes away richer for the exchange.
For more information on how to visit, see Kierkegaard Summer Institute.
Scholarship & Publishing
Research conducted at the Hong Kierkegaard Library frequently develops into significant scholarly contributions in the field of Søren Kierkegaard studies. Scholars who spend time at the Library often carry forward ideas explored here into conference papers, journal articles, books, and doctoral dissertations. In this way, the Library serves not only as a place for research but also as a catalyst for new scholarship. The work fostered within this community also finds expression in the Library’s own publication initiatives, including the International Journal of Kierkegaard Research, helping to share ongoing research with the broader international community of Kierkegaard scholars.
