Each year Residence Life has the pleasure of selecting over 175 student staff members to take on very important roles within our Residence Hall communities. The student staff within Residence Life includes: Leadership Positions (non-wage) and Employees (wage). As a team, we work together to create a welcoming and supportive living environment. Live-In Student Staff Positions

Resident Assistant (RA)
Build strong communities in your residence hall through individual connections and all-hall initiatives. RAs support the social development of residents through creative programming and regular interaction as a friendly face.

Student Hall Coordinator (SHC)
Take a deep dive into St. Olaf Residence Life through advisory work and student staff mentorship. SHCs contribute to initiatives related to Residential Education, and provide peer mentorship to students.

Community Building Assistant (CBA)
Community Building Assistants (CBAs) are integral to the day-to-day function of the residence halls, serving as the primary greeters of their building, supporting housing operations, and providing assistance to students via front desk services. Responsibilities include operating the front desk, storage management, building management, and other administrative tasks.

Community Building Manager (CBM)
Take on a leadership role in St. Olaf Housing Operations. CBMs work closely with professional staff in building management operations and supervise a staff of Community Building Assistants to aid in their growth day-to-day activities and professional development.

Residential Facility Assistant (RFA)
The Residential Facility Assistant (RFA) is a student staff position in the Office of Residence Life and works in conjunction with the Department of Facilities. This position’s primary goal is to support Residence Life and the functional area, Housing Operations. Housing Operations manages, oversees and/or liaison to the following areas: residential maintenance and custodial services, environmental health and safety, sustainability, break housing, summer transitions, and administrative tasks.

Residential Facility Manager (RFM)
The Residential Facility Manager (RFM) is a student staff position in the office of Residence Life. The primary responsibility of an RFM is to oversee the Residential Facility Assistants (RFA) as well as perform all of an RFA.

Housing Operations Assistant (HOA)
This position provides business and administrative support for the Residence Life Team. The position acts as a representative for Residence Life. The individual will be responsible for organizing receipts, bills, and financial information. HOA must be adaptable, efficient, and effective in their communication as well as work with limited supervision or within a project-based team performance environment.

Housing Operations Manager (HOM)
The Housing Operations Manager is a student leadership position providing supervisory and administrative support to the central Residence Life office team. The position acts as a representative for Residence Life.

Graphic Design Assistant
This position provides graphic design support for the Residence Life Team. Secondary support will be provided for social media engagement and strategy, website management, and visual asset content. The position acts as a representative for Residence Life. The individual will do the following, create, support, and integrate themselves into the office’s branding through physical, visual, and social media content.

Event Planning Assistant
The Resident Life Event Planning Assistant will work closely with the Resident Life staff to develop unique and engaging events that foster a sense of community and contribute to the overall well-being of students living on campus. Creating new and innovative event concepts that match Resident Life’s aims and values and contribute to a dynamic campus community.

The Summer Community Assistant (SCA) position supports on-campus living during the summer term by assisting professional staff with daily residence hall operations, including building management, safety, and security. This role will primarily report to the Assistant Director of Residence Education.
1 position is available for this role. The position also involves reading instructions, assembling items, organizing spaces, and completing inventories and audits.
2 positions are available for this role. The Community Building Manager (CBM) positions supports Housing Operations team. The CBM assists with residence hall front desk and storage operations, including work orders, sustainability, and key management. When working at the front desk or in storage, the CBM follows the responsibilities and procedures outlined in the CBA/CBM manual.
1 position is available. The Residential Health & Safety Assistant (RHSA) position promotes safe, healthy, and sustainable residential communities. This role supports environmental health and safety efforts, facilities coordination, and summer operations within residence halls. The RHSA reports to the Associate Dean of Students for Residence Life & Student Conduct, and works collaboratively with Summer Community Assistants (SCAs) during the summer term.

HOAs must be adaptable, efficient, and effective communicators, capable of working independently or as part of a project-based team.

The GDA represents Residence Life by developing and supporting the office’s branding across physical, digital, and social media platforms. This role requires strong communication skills and the ability to engage others to highlight the value of on-campus living.

The Videographer/Photographer position within the Office of Residence Life responsible for capturing and producing visual content that highlights residence life experiences. This role includes photography, videography, and basic editing for social media, marketing, and promotional materials. The position represents Residence Life and requires creativity, strong technical skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with the team.

Data Assessment Intern
As our institution continues to grow and adapt, our department strives to meet the ever-evolving needs of our campus community. The Data Assessment Intern will collect, analyze, and interpret data to identify key insights and create strategic plans that address the developing needs of our campus community and instruct best practices.

Community Standards & Student Responsibility
As the Community Standards & Student Responsibility Intern you will aid in case management, conflict resolution, and support policy/procedureview. You will uphold campus policies, model responsible behavior, have the unique opportunity to participate in conduct meetings, and develop engaging programming that encourages positive behavior within our student body.

Housing Operations Intern
Housing Operations Intern supports summer guests and internal college groups in relation to housing. Interns will coordinate cleaning with the Facilities Services, coordinate meals with Bon Appetit (the on-campus food service) and guest card activation. In addition the position will receive technical training on the housing operation system.
