Working On Campus with an F-1 Visa
- Must perform work on the school’s premises
- Must not exceed 20 hours per week when classes are in session (full-time work is permitted during official school breaks longer than one week)
- Must complete Section 1 and Section 2 of your Form I-9 with your passport, I-20, and I-94.
Working Off Campus with an F-1 Visa
- Must have completed one academic year of study in the United States
- Must work in a role directly related to the student’s major
- Must apply for CPT prior to beginning work
Post-Graduation Work
- Apply for OPT up to 90 days before – and up to 60 days after – degree completion date
- Note: You can apply for OPT without having a job offer.
**It is the responsibility of each international student to ensure they do not violate their F-1 status by working illegally while in the United States.**
