Requirements for the Asian Studies Major
The major consists of nine courses.
1. Two courses in Chinese or Japanese above 112 or its equivalent
2. Senior Seminar:
- Asian Studies 399: Asian Studies Seminar or
- Asian Studies 397: Human Rights/Asian Context
3. Six electives, with these stipulations:
- At least two at level II or level III, taken on campus;
- No more than two at level I;
- No more than four elective courses about any one country;
- No level I or II language courses may count.
Students who fulfill the language requirement through proficiency testing in an Asian language must take an additional elective course, for a total of seven electives.
Additionally, Asian Studies Majors are highly encouraged to spend a semester or year abroad.
