November 10, 2017 – January 15, 2018
Closed November 22-26 (Thanksgiving Break) and December 20 – January 2 (Winter Break).
Mathematics has been a profound source of inspiration for artists across time and cultures. In Seeing Math, six contemporary artists, Daniel Dean, Tracy Krumm, Emily Lynch Victory, Ben Moren, Margaret Pezalla-Granlund, and Roman Verostko, address a number of mathematical concepts, including infinity, algorithms, geometry, and the fourth dimension. Some, such as Emily Lynch Victory’s 3P3 paintings, are firmly rooted in mathematical concepts, while other works, such as Daniel Dean’s endlessly looping Infinity boxes, express a more poetic relationship to mathematical reasoning.
Opening Reception

Go deeper…
Visit the exhibition’s Reading and Activity Corner, filled with books, puzzles, building sets, and games for all ages that expand on the mathematical concepts in Seeing Math. This is a space for going deeper with topics such as algorithmic art, curves and surfaces, math in handwork, infinity, patterns, the perception of time, 3D printing, and the 4th dimension. Hands-on activities allow visitors to play with the ideas and make complex concepts tangible. Unless otherwise noted, please enjoy the materials on site.
