Sophie W. Eisner
Sophie W. Eisner reconfigures and modifies found objects to highlight what she describes as “the poetic qualities of functional objects and space.” In her interactive sculpture, The Nature of Intimacy, audience members and a musician listen to an unamplified electric guitar via stethoscopes connected to the guitar body. Curator and artist Zoe Cinel notes in her exhibition catalog essay that the stethoscopes “walk a line between human and machine, unique and standard, soft and sanitized—between a womb and a waiting room.” Flaten Art Museum is delighted to host live performances of the The Nature of Intimacy.
