Email Mailing Lists

An e-mail mailing list (or alias) will allow you to send a message to a number of recipients using only a single e-mail address. For example, if you address a message to alias_name@stolaf.edu, it will be received by every member of the mailing list. Some mailing lists are automatically generated from administrative data; others are created and maintained by individual users.

Student Mailing Lists

This reaches all St. Olaf students but is restricted to the following uses:

  • Registrar's Office (for sending academic notices to the entire student body)
  • The Dean of Students
  • Public Safety (for notifying students of crime reports)

Messages sent to student mailing lists are moderated; there may be a delay between when they are sent and when they are delivered. Messages that do not fit the guidelines will be silently deleted.

Course Mailing Lists

Course mailing lists include every registered member of a class. Faculty teaching the course and auditors are also included. Teaching assistants (TA's) are not included. The instructor can add additional recipients in Account Services under "Manage Class Groups."
