St. Olaf has an ArcGIS Online site that allows for the creation of both individual and collaborative projects. This site is available to anyone on campus (students, faculty, and staff) who have an interest in mapping – it is not required to be part of a course in order to use the site.
While a variety of projects can be created on the site, some of the tools that can be accessed are:
- Web maps and the Story Maps application
- ArcGIS Dashboard and virtual map posters
- Instant creation of web apps to embed on websites
- Some tools available for statistical and geospatial analysis
- Storage for spatial data
For questions on using ArcGIS for research and the tools available, contact the IT Helpdesk.
It is recommended to use Google Chrome when accessing ArcGIS Online, but this program can be used in most browsers (Safari, Firefox, Microsoft Edge). ArcGIS Online is also compatible with both Windows and Mac – it is a browser based application so it does not require an application to be installed.
