Psychology Lab Reservation Protocol
Although the Psychology Laboratories will be open during scheduled lab and class times, usage between classes or after hours may be granted to Psychology or Neuroscience students in certain circumstances. These are NOT general homework and study spaces and should not be used as such. Remember, your usage of the Psychology Labs outside of class time is a privilege that may be granted to students who are doing research or course-related work (including design, programming, data analysis using SPSS, etc.) in a relevant Psychology course (Psych 230, Psych 236, Psych 237, Psych 339, Psych 395, Psych 396 or Psych 398) —or— conducting research using the equipment available only in RNS160c (Biopac, Superlab, SPSS, Eye Tracker, etc.). A few guidelines:
- RNS160c will be available to Psychology research students from 8AM-5PM M-F. Please contact your course professor, supervisor, or TA about gaining access. Students will need to use their ID cards to access the space, which may take a few days to set up.
- RNS131 is a faculty research space attached to the RNS 127 suite. In certain circumstances, it may be reserved for research and course-related activities. Please contact your course professor or TA about gaining access.
- All usage is governed by a general Google calendar. If the room is reserved, it is unavailable to anyone who is not on the reservation. TAs for the listed courses may also reserve the space for course-related help sessions. If no reservation appears on the calendar and the room is occupied, it will be assumed that the space is available for communal use (multiple student groups or faculty).
- You may request a reservation of a Psychology Lab space using the following Google Form. All requests will be reviewed by departmental staff and must be approved by your research supervisor or course TA before being granted, so plan ahead. We will need a minimum of 24 hours notice to get the reservation approved and on the schedule. Reservations may NOT be made by posting a note on the classroom door or window or by leaving your things on the tables in the room to make it look in use. You may not leave belongings in the space unless you are using the space directly.
- In some instances, students may be granted after-hours access to the Psychology Labs. This will be considered on a case-by-case basis in consultation with your course professor or supervisor. Access is not allowed outside of RNS building hours.
- Please be respectful of the space. Please do not use equipment on which you have not been trained. Be sure to put any equipment back when you are done, and keep tables and chairs tidy and neat. We are all responsible for using this space, and must all take care of it. If anything is broken, please let Prof. Loebach (loebach@stolaf.edu) or Darla Frandrup (frandrup@stolaf.edu) know right away.
- Any violations may result in the revocation of your privileges to use the Psych Labs. All door access is monitored, so if something goes wrong or there are questions, the last person who scanned in will be held responsible. It is up to all of us to make sure that the space and resources are available to all.
