Reporting to the College
Meeting with the Director of Equal Opportunity is a great way to learn about all the various options and resources available to someone who has experienced sexual harassment or misconduct. Meeting with the Director of Equal Opportunity does not automatically initiate any next steps, and reporting individuals have autonomy regarding whether and when to move forward with any next steps. Reporting individuals are also encouraged to take as much time as they need to consider their options prior to indicating which option they wish to pursue, if any. The Director of Equal Opportunity is well-versed in the various resources, accommodations, and other supportive measures available to reporting individuals and can help set up connections with those resources if needed. The Director of Equal Opportunity will also explain an individual’s option of reporting to law enforcement and can help facilitate reporting to police if desired by the reporting individual.

This online form may be used to indicate concerns related to sex-based harassment, sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, and stalking of and/or by any St. Olaf community member. All submissions are immediately sent to the Director of Equal Opportunity. Individuals who have either experienced or witnessed any of these concerns are encouraged to fill out this form regardless of whether the incident occurred on or off campus and regardless of when the incident occurred. This form may be submitted anonymously; however, the College is limited in its ability to respond to the concerns contained within anonymous reports. If you submit the form and include your name and contact information, the Director of Equal Opportunity will follow up with you regarding options for next steps and the resources available to you.
St. Olaf has confidential and non-confidential resources on-campus to provide ongoing support for anyone affected by sex discrimination, sex-based harassment, or sexual misconduct.
Follow the first link to read about the information given to someone who reports any form of sexual harassment and the information given to someone who is accused of any form of sexual harassment. The second link provides access to easily understandable flowcharts about the various Title IX processes.
How to Report When You Have Experienced Sex Discrimination, Sex-based Harassment or Misconduct
Anyone who has experienced sex discrimination, sex-based harassment, or sexual misconduct – including, but not limited to, unwelcome sexual advances, sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, or stalking – is strongly encouraged to report this experience to the college. Reporting to the college will enable the college to take measures to stop the behavior, prevent it from occurring in the future, and provide support, resources, and protection.
There are many different ways to report to the college, whether orally or in writing:
- You can contact the St. Olaf Director of Equal Opportunity or any other member of the Equal Opportunity Team, in person, by telephone, or by email.
- You can submit the online reporting form, which will go directly to the Director of Equal Opportunity. You can choose to complete it anonymously or to provide your name and contact information.
- You can report anonymously to the Campus Conduct Hotline, an independent organization available 24/7, by calling 866-943-2787 or visiting this site. This Hotline enables employees or students to anonymously express any questions or concerns about possible violations of college policy or the law.
You can report to the college without initiating a formal Title IX investigation or reporting to law enforcement. You do not need to submit a report in writing in order to receive support, resources, or protective measures from the college. Additionally, individuals who report sex-based harassment and individuals who participate as a party or witness in an investigation into allegations of sex-based harassment will not be disciplined by the College for violations of its Policies on Alcohol and Illicit Drugs and/or COVID-19 community standards that are disclosed during the reporting process or as a result of an investigation. Please see the St. Olaf College Policy Prohibiting Unlawful Disriination, Harassment and Retaliation for additional information about reporting options and considerations.
Reporting Discrimination, Harassment or Retaliation that Has Happened to Someone Else
With the exception of college-identified confidential resources, all college employees who become aware of incidents or allegations of discrimination, harassment, or retaliation, must refer the matter to the college via a required referral. This obligation extends to student employees in the course of their work-related activities. All other individuals are strongly encouraged to notify the college as well.
There are many different ways to make a required referral, whether orally or in writing:
- You can contact the St. Olaf Director of Equal Opportunity or any other member of the Equal Opportunity team, in person, by telephone, or by email.
- You can submit the online reporting form, which will go directly to the Director of Equal Opportunity. Unless you are a college employee, you can choose to complete it anonymously. If you are a college employee, including a student employee who received information about discrimination or sex-based harassment as a result of your employment, you must provide your name and contact information.
- Unless you are a college employee, you can report anonymously by telephone by calling the Campus Conduct Hotline, an independent organization available 24/7, at 866-943-2787.
For more information about employees’ reporting responsibilities, please refer to the Required Referral FAQ Document.
See the St. Olaf College Policy Prohibiting Unlawful Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliaion for additional information about reporting options and considerations.
Reporting Discrimination, Harassment and Retaliation as a St. Olaf Alumni
Reports regarding discrimination, harassment and retaliation from alums are encouraged and welcomed at any time, even if the incident or situation occurred a long time ago. Alums can report discrimination, harassment and retaliation involving other students, employees, or visitors to campus. You can report things that happened to you or things that happened to someone else, and you can report incidents that occurred on and/or off campus.
The services of our Director of Equal Opportunity are available to alumni as well. After reporting, the Director of Equal Opportunity can help connect you with resources in your area and can provide assistance with reporting to law enforcement if that is of interest to you.
If you would like to report an incident, you can do so by using our online form, which can be submitted anonymously. The form does allow you to include your contact information if you are comfortable doing so. If you do include your contact information, our Title IX Coordinator can reach out to you. You are also able to report by calling (507-786-3465) or emailing the Director of Equal Opportunity directly. Lastly, you can also report anonymously by telephone by calling the Campus Conduct Hotline, staffed 24/7 by an independent organization, at 866-943-2787.
