St. Olaf Social Media Policy and Procedure
Social media is a powerful tool. Creating content for and monitoring accounts can be a full-time job. These channels can be a liability for the college if they are not properly maintained. Members of the St. Olaf community must affirm the guidelines below before creating or maintaining any social media channel that explicitly or implicitly purports to be supported by the college. The Marketing and Communications Office oversees these guidelines, which aim to maintain the college’s brand identity, protect the college’s mission, and strengthen collaboration among members of the campus community. Departments and offices must be granted approval from the Assistant Director of Social Media for any social media channel with ties to the college. Those wanting more exposure, but not the responsibility of running a college-affiliated account, are strongly encouraged to collaborate with the Assistant Director of Social Media to share content on the main St. Olaf accounts, which have the largest following of any college-affiliated social media platform.
