St. Olaf College Sponsorship Guidelines and Considerations
College leaders and financial managers:
The following guidelines and considerations should guide decision-making to effectively and wisely steward college monetary* resources as St. Olaf College considers opportunities to participate in the sponsorship of organizations, events, and/or activities within the local community.
- The organization’s mission should be aligned with our mission, our strategic priorities (such as DEIB, environmental stewardship, etc.), and our obligations to the local community as a neighbor.
- The organization must be a 501c3 nonprofit organization and be nonpartisan in nature. In the instance of sponsorship of a for-profit organization or event, additional information may be required to ensure that we are in legal compliance with our own nonprofit status.
- The organization provides opportunities that enhance the education of our students either directly (e.g., community-based work study, internships, academic civic engagement class projects, volunteering) or indirectly through its own community engagement opportunities such as performances, community lectures, volunteer opportunities, etc.
- The sponsorship dollars are granted to the organization itself rather than to a re-granting entity, OR, in the case where it is more practical to give to the re-granting agency, the gift names the intended recipient organization.
- Ongoing/recurring current sponsorships should have their funding moved to the college’s central budget for this purpose.
Institutional level sponsorships must be approved by the CFO and VP for College Relations and Enrollment or their designee. Approved sponsorships will be required to use the official St. Olaf College logo and follow the College’s brand guidelines. All materials must be approved by the CMO or their designee. All sponsorship requests should be directed to Katie Warren -Chief Marketing Officer.
