Purpose of stolaf-extra
stolaf-extra is intended to be used by students, faculty, and staff to advertise the sale or donation of lawful goods and services, request items/services, notification of events, course advertising, and campus office announcements. These postings are sent to others who are part of this Google Group. Please note: this is an opt-in Google Group, and, therefore, not everyone on campus sees postings on stolaf-extra.

Response Time
stolaf-extra is a moderated Google Group. This means all requested postings are submitted for approval before being live within the Google Group. Postings are reviewed and approved/denied during regular business hours of Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Most post requests during business hours will be reviewed within 1-2 hours. On evenings, weekends, and holidays, the response time for review of post requests can take 1-2 days. Extra may not be moderated during extended holiday breaks like Thanksgiving and Christmas. Please do not use stolaf-extra for emergency requests.
Posting Guidelines
- Include a description of the item for sale/donation/being requested
- Include the price (if any) of the item for sale
- Do not “reply all” to postings
- Do not resubmit a posting if some of the listed items have sold and others are still available
- Do not send multiple messages about the same item or event
- Be brief and concise
Survey Distribution
Surveys for course credit and gathering campus community data. Students wishing to gather campus community data for required coursework or other reporting purposes are advised to connect with the Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment’s Large Scale Survey Coordination Team for support at sct@stolaf.edu.
Surveys for Ole Cup or other entrepreneurial pitching. Students wishing to survey the campus community related to Ole Cup or other entrepreneurial pitching are advised to connect with the Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment’s Large Scale Survey Coordination Team at sct@stolaf.edu. For further assistance, students are advised to meet with the Director of the Piper Center on best practices for generating the most meaningful and insightful data.
Student Transportation Requests
All student transportation requests should be submitted through the ineedaride Google Group. Please note, this is also a moderated Google Group, so post requests are not automatically live within the group. Please plan ahead.
Student Roommate or Room Swap Requests
Students looking for a roommate should participate in Residence Life Roommate Social events or contact the Residence Life office directly for support.
stolaf-extra Terms of Use
stolaf-extra is a Google Group made available to students, faculty, staff, and others associated with St. Olaf College. By accessing or otherwise interacting with stolaf-extra, you agree to abide by and be bound to these Terms of Use (“TOU”). If you are accessing or using stolaf-extra on behalf of a student organization, you represent and warrant that you have authority to accept the TOU on behalf of that organization and that the relevant business, organization, or group agrees to these TOU. If you do not agree to the TOU, you are not authorized to use stolaf-extra. St. Olaf College may modify the TOU at any time in our sole discretion. You are responsible for periodically checking this page for changes and are bound by them if you continue to use stolaf-extra. Our privacy policy, prohibited list, and all other policies are fully incorporated into this TOU, and you agree to them as well.
To conserve the college’s limited Google Storage space, stolaf-extra email messages older than one year will be automatically deleted from users accounts. This includes both messages you receive from or send to stolaf-extra. Past postings will be archived within the Google Group history.
Use. stolaf-extra is to be solely used to advertise the sale or donation of lawful goods and services. Misleading, unsolicited, and/or unlawful postings or communications are prohibited. You agree not to post content that is prohibited by St. Olaf policies or rules, including the Google Group Guidelines. You agree not to collect stolaf-extra user information or interfere with stolaf-extra. You agree we may moderate stolaf-extra access/use in our sole discretion, e.g., by blocking, filtering, re-categorizing, deleting, delaying, holding, omitting, verifying, or terminating your postings and/or access to the stolaf-extra Google Group. You agree (1) not to bypass said moderation, (2) we are not liable for moderating or not moderating, and (3) nothing we say or do waives our right to moderate, or not. Unless licensed by us in a separate written or electronic agreement, you agree not to use stolaf-extra in any manner or for any purpose that infringes, misappropriates, or otherwise violates any intellectual property right or other right of any person, or that violates any applicable law. Members of the campus community are encouraged to report any criminal activity, suspicious behavior, or safety concerns to the Department of Public Safety.
Disclaimer & Liability. You agree to release, indemnify, and hold St. Olaf College harmless from any claims, losses, liability, or expenses (including attorneys’ fees) that arise from your use of the stolaf-extra Google Group.
