Sex discrimination, sexual harassment, and sexual misconduct are grievous violations of an individual’s dignity and may cause serious physical, psychological, and/or social harms. If you have experienced any form of discrimination, harassment, or misconduct, including rape or other forms of sexual assault, St. Olaf is committed to supporting you both in the moment and in the aftermath. You can get support at any time – not only in the hours or days immediately following an incident, but weeks, months, or even years later. You can also get support whether or not you choose to report to the college, report to law enforcement, or initiate an investigation by filing a complaint with the college.
Ongoing support resources may also be helpful to people who have not experienced discrimination, harassment, or misconduct themselves, but who want to provide information and support to others who have.
Use the links in the tabs below to learn more about campus resources and community resources providing ongoing support for anyone affected by sex discrimination, sexual harassment, or sexual misconduct.
Confidential vs. Non-Confidential Resources
Two types of campus resources provide ongoing support for anyone affected by sex discrimination, sexual harassment, or sexual misconduct:
-
- Confidential resources are not required to disclose to anyone else the information you share with them, unless that information involves the abuse of a minor or vulnerable adult, or an imminent threat to someone’s life.
- All other college employees, including student employees in their work-related roles, are required to share with the Title IX Coordinator any information they receive concerning sex discrimination, sexual harassment, or sexual misconduct, even if you ask them to keep the information confidential. After the college employee shares your disclosure with the Title IX Coordinator, the Coordinator will reach out to you via email with an offer to meet and discuss your available resources and options, including your ability to pursue an investigation through the College’s process. Whether you follow up with the Title IX Coordinator is up to you, and meeting with the Title IX Coordinator does not automatically initiate any next steps.
- Know that regardless of who you disclose to, your information will be kept extremely private. If you do disclose to a Non-Confidential resource, that individual will only share your information with other college employees who have a “need to know.”
Anyone who has experienced discrimination, harassment, or misconduct is strongly encouraged to report to the college in order to receive support and assistance, and in order for the college to offer options that would stop the behavior and prevent it from occurring in the future. However, if you are not sure that you want to report to the college, or if you want assistance in doing so, you are encouraged to contact a confidential resource first.
