Alcohol & Other Drugs
There are two main factors that negatively affect the stigma placed on a disorder: perceived control that a person has over the condition and perceived fault in acquiring the condition. Labeling someone or referring to someone as an “addict” or “alcoholic”, whether intentional or not, is not your role and perpetuates the stigma.
Remember, using Person-First Language is recommended whenever speaking to someone who you are concerned for.
