Environmental Careers Organization (ECO)*

ECO places approximately 400 interns each year in environmental “internships,” though most of these pay quite well and provide good entry-level opportunities for graduating seniors. If you are a college junior, senior or graduate student, OR you have completed your Associate’s, Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. degree within the last three years, you are eligible. Internships last from 3 months to 2 years. Average stipend is $425 per week.
Deadline: Varies, usually 3 weeks after internship is posted on the ECO site

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency–Fellowships Internships and Student Programs*

Opportunities in research, environmental awareness projects, environmental law, PR and communications, computer programming, etc. (part- and full-time available). Complete instructions and application materials on web site.

Student Conservation Association

SCA sponsors several conservation and environmental programs, mainly in national parks, forests and wildlife refuges. Undergraduates and recent alumni are eligible for the program. SCA now offers AmeriCorps education awards of between $1,180 to $4,725 to individuals who successfully complete an SCA Conservation Internship. The award can be applied toward existing college loans or future tuition. Plus, students receivecollege loan deferment and SCA’s financial package of travel, housing, a weekly living allowance and insurance.
