The Piper Center for Vocation & Career is partnering with Aspen Publishing to offer the JD-Next program.
JD-Next is an innovative online law school prep course program and entrance exam that provides a cost-effective and realistic preview of what law school will be like, prepares applicants for the rigors of law school, and offers a fair and accurate assessment of an applicant’s academic readiness for law school!
Approximately 50 law schools have been accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) to accept JD-Next instead of the LSAT. Please note, however, that if you take the LSAT, those schools will view your LSAT score as well as your JD-Next score. The majority of law schools still require the LSAT.
The online course takes place over 8 weeks, during which students will watch approximately 8.5 hours of law-related videos, supplemental instructional videos, and complete online assignments.
The core curriculum will be delivered primarily in two class formats: Skills Workshops and Doctrinal Classes. In the Skills Workshops, students will learn and practice explicit skills, e.g., how to identify the legal issue in a judicial opinion, whereas, in the Doctrinal Classes, students will learn and apply legal doctrine. In the Doctrinal Classes, students will find a microcosm of a typical law school class.
The course is modeled after a required 1L course — contract law — and includes actual historic cases you will learn in your first year of law school.
