Museum Conservation Certificate

The specific objectives of this program are to:

• Develop fundamental skills in museum conservation through hands-on learning with study collection items

• Gain a better understanding of the breadth of career opportunities available in the field of art conservation

• Understand the impact of temperature, relative humidity, and air quality on a range of materials

• Know the international guidelines for Museum environments

• Use simple tools for artwork examination and gain practical experience handling art and artifacts safely

• Practice emergency preparedness and wet salvage strategies for collections

• Junior or senior with a strong academic record (exceptional sophomores may be considered)

• Any academic discipline is welcome, although Art History, Chemistry, and Studio Art majors may be particularly well positioned for this opportunity

• Strong interest in the subject matter

• Able to effectively work as part of a team
