Certificates for Creatives: Writing and Editing

The Piper Center for Vocation & Career is partnering with AIGA: The Professional Association for Design to offer the Writing and Editing Certificate program.

The ability to write clearly and directly is highly prized in most organizations. From well-written emails to documents used to inform or persuade your audience, effective writing is an essential skill in the designer’s toolkit. This certificate will cover techniques for both business writing and technical writing. You’ll also be given tips for how to address common challenges, from idea to execution. The certificate will also provide foundational skills in copyediting, as well as more detailed information related to parts of speech and sentence construction to ensure you have a range of skills to make your writing stand out.

Note: Given the cost associated with the program, selected students must commit to completing the (estimated 28 hours total) of online training.

Application Deadline: Friday, December 1 at 11:55pm.

The specific objectives of this program are to:

- To provide opportunities for students who have an interest in careers within publishing, marketing, or other positions in the literary industry
- To develop an effective and impactful experiential learning opportunity for students.
- To lay the foundation needed for future publishing professionals to find resources and “learn how to learn” the technical skills and experience what their future careers will need
- To create a space where students can explore how to put their liberal arts education to use in a real world setting

Any class year is welcome to apply
Strong interest in the subject matter
Able to effectively work as part of a team
Relevant experience in the arts, creative writing, publishing, or copyediting
