The interview has started! You are sitting across from the interviewer, and you’ve discussed the weather and the horrible traffic outside.
The interviewer looks at you, smiles, and says, “So tell me about yourself?”
What do you say?
You can prepare for this question by writing a benefit statement — a short summary of the benefits that you will bring to the organization. The goal is to capture the interviewer’s interest in 45-60 seconds.
What does a benefit statement include?
- Your academics
- Related experiences (Internships/Work Experience)
- Extracurricular or community activities
- A one-sentence summary of how your academics, experiences and activities will specifically benefit the organization
